jersey – where clouds are born
March 17th, 2009Jersey gets a lot of flack for supposedly being “stinky” and “smelly” and “ugly.” David Letterman described it as the “curb-of-New-York” and in the Top 10 Rejected New Jersey Slogans at Literal Barrage, 2 of them rag on odor:
- New Jersey: Come Smell For Yourself.
- New Jersey: No, Seriously, What’s That Smell?
I even saw, “New Jersey… not enough ocean to wash it clean” in a comment on Free Republic. I won’t be so obtuse as to deny that there is any humor in that statement, but on my train ride this morning I was reminded of something that so many people overlook.
Among the concrete jungle of Newark and the industrial nightmare that strangles Jersey on the Hudson, there are the factories that make our world a happier, shadier, fluffier place.
The cloud factories.
I eagerly snapped a couple pictures of one of these factories at work, to post here and show them to you. As you take a moment to look, I ask a simple request: that you remember and appreciate where clouds come from.
Because the next time you are laying in the grass on a cool summer’s day, picking out dogs, cars and elephants in the grand fluffiness in the sky, remember…
Jersey gave you those clouds.
